Hello, thank you for visiting my new web site. Welcome!

My aim with this site is 4 fold

First, as time progresses, to bring you news of events and activities relaying to my textile art and work

Second, to bring you images of new work, both as it progresses and complete

Third, to provide a historical perspective of some, but by no means all, of work that I have produced in the past

And finally, to open a channel of communication between, us if you want to. I would really value comments you may have, whether these are about individual pieces of work or the web site itself or anything else. I look forward to hearing from you

Textile art is my chosen medium, so I work primarily in both fabric and threads, creating woven tapestry and fabric collages (pieced, applique and quilting). From time to time I also combine the interest in textiles with others in bookbinding and metal.

I enjoy experimenting with colour and texture, and textiles are an ideal medium for this. I find real opportunities in combining different media, such as the contrast of hard cold metal with soft threads and fabric or incorporating found objects (from skips, beaches, walking etc). There are special challenges in combining different disciplines which provide great satisfaction when they work…….

I take inspiration from both geometric forms with their inherent symmetry, and also from the more irregular shapes, textures and colours of the environment around us.

My work with textiles and threads is a million miles (or stitches and wefts) from my previous work in industry and as an accountant. It has opened my eyes and mind to the world around us, and I am now aware of, and see, both details and bigger pictures.

WOW I feel so privileged to have met you..

I love the web site it is incredibly impressive, very informative and at the same time very user friendly. I am now doubly happy that I sold your Glacier weaving at the Mill, Angmerring.

Congratulations on this venture and I for one will be watching your new career with interest.

However, the immediate challenge is getting everything finally ready for Loch Lomond – only 2 weeks away!

Hi love your work and will be following you, its great to have men in the business. In my experiance if a man does textiles/ sewing he does it exceedingly well, you have proven my point.

Pat past this along to me, Mike, I’m sure I will be a regular visitor. I like the variety in your work, both in ideas and materials. It shows a mind still very much alive and curious. It’s a good website. Congratulations. Alan

Alan, thanks fort your kind words. I regret that the site is not up to date – I have the best of intentions in this respect, but find greater interest in the weaving, sewing etc than sitting at the computer. I will try to improve!
